On August 27, 1898, the famous Dutch theologist, politician and journalist Abraham Kuyper arrived in New York by steamboat. It was the beginning of a five-month journey through the United States of America. What did his travels mean then, and what do they mean for America today? That is the starting point of the television series “Varia Americana – In the footsteps of Abraham Kuyper through America”.
The 4-episode series was produced by ICU Documentaries for Dutch public television and was broadcast in May of this year of the second channel of Dutch Public Television. In each episode, the filmmakers examine the interface between Kuyper’s analysis in the past and developments in the present, in the year of the 2016 presidential election.
