At the end of the previous century a war was raging in the heart of Europe. The war in Kosovo. We were two young reporters in those days, covering the conflict for a Dutch current affairs program.
Amid the refugees from Kosovo we met a young couple. On the run for violence. Their names were Valon and Flutura. Valon had lost his family while he and his fiancé Flutura were ousted from their home in Pristina, by Serbian paramilitary forces.
The encounter with Valon and Flutura has had a lasting effect on us. However, in the years after the war, we lost track of one another.
Until recently, that is.
Pristina Revisited. A film on life after war. A search for the people who witnessed the horror. A story on grief, on irreparable loss, yet also a story on hope for a better future.
A 60-minute version of this documentary was broadcast (Dutch title: Weerzien in Pristina) on July 5, 2020 by BNNVARA at the second channel of Dutch Public Television.
